My version of Modular Yarn Boxes

As soon as I saw these yarn holders/boxes I knew I had to make one (. . .or several).  SinceClosed yarn boxes my yarn balls have a tendency to fall on the floor and roll through clumps of dog hair (and sometimes my cat Neko tries to 'help' me with it), these boxes seemed useful even though I don't (yet) do much colorwork.

I made one box right away with fabric I happened to have in large enough pieces: a cotton cat face print for outside lined with a heavier white canvas-type cotton.  The second box is pieced together from a fat quarter bundle that included pieces I had no idea what I was going to do with them.  I'm a bit happier with the first box, mainly because of the stiffer lining -- it definitely helps the box hold its shape.

Loaded yarn boxes, open I made a couple of changes.  They sound awesome, but I didn't use the magnetic snaps since I don't have any.  I may add something later to serve the same purpose.  I also stitched up one back corner seam, around the flap (closing the open edge in the process) and back down the other back corner seam.

The new part for me was making a buttonhole (of any kind).  I did this one by machine, and it was very easy to do, except for remembering to adjust the length of the zigzag.

Overall I think I'll be quite happy using these. . . and maybe my projects will turn out a little less hairy.
